There is a lot of fun and satisfaction being an official. It is great seeing athletes up close and satisfying to know that you have helped to ensure that the competition is held in accordance with best practice.
Officials are the lift blood of the sport and nothing can happen without them!
This is why Auckland Junior Athletics is in need of more officials for the coming season. Clubs are encouraged to get behind parents and volunteers to participate by offering introductory officials courses covering track, throws, jumps and health and safety. Clubs have been allocated a specific event they are responsible to run for the 2020/2021 season. Participants will be encouraged to complete health and safety as well as the event they have been assigned. This will involve 2 hours minimum however if you want to do all the other events, this can be accommodated provided there are spaces available.
The course will be run over 3 Saturdays in October on the 10th, 17th and 31st from 9am to 12pm. Please register under the event date for each weekend you wish to attend.
The venue is at the Herb Towers, Mt Smart Stadium and participants are asked to meet in the stand near the Camera Room.
The course will be run by Paul Craddock.
Each session will include a walk of the specific event, how to set up equipment, the basic rules and what constitutes a valid trial.
There is a $5 charge to cover the cost of photocopying the course material.
If participants want to complete a C-Grade qualification, a seminar and practical test for each of either throws ,jumps or track will need to be completed. Please let Paul know if you wish to complete the C-Grade Officials course.
Please note – anyone is welcome to attend the course.
The training will give you the confidence to make decisions at any athletics event including club nights where you are helping out.
